Rules for Handbag Hunting:
1. Check the weight of the bag when it's empty. Some bags have lots of hardware that can become very heavy to wear, so you need to keep this in mind, because of the added weight of your items you will be carrying.
2. Straps Are Key!!! Some straps do not stay in place well, and others lay on your shoulder like they were made for you, try them on for size until you find a fit you are comfortable in. If you prefer a bag that simply slips over your arm, again, I recommend trying them out for comfort.
3. Look at the overall practicality of the bag for you. Take into consideration the size of the bag and what you normally carry, the opening fixtures (is it a zip open, a snap, a clasp, etc) and the ease or difficulty of getting into the bag. Does the bag have handy compartments so that items are easier to locate and store?
4. Does the bag express your personality? Your handbag, in my opinion is your most important accessory, because it functions as both a portable office and a fashion statement. It's your portable office carrying all your important items such as phone, wallet, checkbook, handheld devices, etc.; but it also functions as a fashion statement for you in how it looks and works with your wardrobe. Never underestimate the power of a great handbag!
5. Finally, I recommend taking any bag you are serious about for a "test drive". When we go and select several bags that we have narrowed it down to, I ask the sales clerk if my client can put her bag inside the bag she is considering, or at least the majority of her items she will carry. This is really important so that we know if things will fit, and how heavy the bag will be, and how convenient the bag will be.
I have some great sources for high quality designer bags at incredibly good prices. Let me know when you are ready to replace your bag!
